There are 32 children who are orphans or from needy families who currently attend the pre-school on the grounds of the church; some of the are HIV positive. There are 2 classes of children ranging in age from 3-6. Initially the congregation (through offering and fundraising) provided the main support for the school, as many students are unable to pay the $ 1.40 monthly fees. The two teachers have a salary of $ 100 each per month. It has been a big burden for the congregation to keep up this support and the church leaders had recommended that the school close in January 2007. Well-wishers donated salaries for 4 months, but there is an urgent need of further assistance to help with the teacher’s salaries. There is also an ongoing need for supplies and teaching materials. The children are at school all day and are supposed to bring lunch. Many of them do not bring food and often go without food. The church would like to add a feeding program so that all children will have at least one good meal daily.
