Joel Kuria Wheel Chair Donation
People with disabilities in Kenya are the poorest of the poor, the most marginalized of the marginals and the the most voiceless of the voices. Out of Kenya's population of 30 million almost 10% of them (3 million) are persons with disabilities. In spite of the 2003 People with Disabilities Act, they are still kept at the very margin of society due to cultural factors, ignorance and superstition. Persons with disabilities are largely perceived as a curse or punishment from God, Sub-human and unfit to participate in society mainstream activities. Most families with children with disabilities are ashamed of them, tend to hide them and do not offer them any opportunities for personal development such as access to education or employment in family business or land.
Wheel chair donation can simply result in giving a gift of mobility to someone who has never seen the world from above ground. You can make a difference to a disabled person through a donation of a wheel chair. We would not mind even a refurbished Wheel Chairs, Medical Walking Sticks, and Clutches.

Joel Kuria at 17 years before he got a wheel chair.
Joel Kuria was born normal on the 11th of November 1987. He is the first born in a family of four children. His mother left their land in 2002 after their house was burnt during the tribal clashes. In 2000 Joel developed knee's pain that result to his disability. The mother though very poor had been visiting various hospitals in kenya through the assistance of friends and neighbours. The family lives in a mud and grass thatched rental house. Sometimes they even stay for two days without a meal.
Then the Nakuru United Methodist Church began assisting with free medical care through our Wesley Mission Dispensary. A donation for a wheel chair was made by Sister Emilie,Diane and their dear friends from High Point in U.S.A.

Before Joel got the wheel chair, sometimes he could stay for weeks without seeing the sun and had developed skin infections because he couldn't move from the bed.
Joel is now in a special school at Joy Town Special School for the Physically Handicapped where he is also undergoing therapy. Every year it will cost US $1200 to support his tuition and therapy at the school. He still needs our prayers and financial assistance to help him through his studies.
We wish to thank Welsey Memorial Congregation and Nakuru UMC congregation for their prayers and support for Joel Kuria and their continued support that will make this boy's dream come true. You are blessed of the LORD.
